New research shows that needlestick injury rates aren’t falling, despite U.S. Occupational Health & Safety regulations. Some of the challenges stem from a lack of understanding on the part of hospitals about which technologies can help reduce sharps injuries. The number of injuries has the potential to rise as the definition of a healthcare worker expands and home care becomes more common. Access to automatic and semiautomatic needle safety devices will be critical.
