Essilor is a major ophthalmic and optics company, manufacturing a wide range of lenses to improve and protect eyesight. Flagship brands include Varilux, Crizal, Transitions, Eyezen, Xperio, Foster Grant, Bolon and Costa. Besides continuing to spend the equivalent of more than $200 million a year on research and development, Essilor also spent a similar amount on media last year to boost brand awareness among consumers.
Essilor is in the process of merging with Italian eyewear maker Luxottica in a deal worth €46 billion ($49 billion).
