Magtrace and Sentimag magnetic localization system
Endomagnetics
Engomagnetics’s Magtrace and Sentimag magnetic localization system is a magnetic device system that is used to guide lymph node biopsies in patients who are having a mastectomy for breast cancer.
The system features a Magtrace injectable magnetic tracer and a Sentimag magnetic sensing probe and base unit to help in sentinel lymph node biopsies, according to the FDA.
Magtrace has a solution of iron nanoparticles that are coated with a carboxydextran shell. The magnetic particles are injected into the breast tissue and are absorbed by the lymph nodes. Surgeons can then use the Sentimag probe on the patient’s skin near the tumor to detect magnetic particles located within the sentinel lymph node. The node can then be removed to test for cancer cells.
