BrainSpec
Boston
Founded: 2015
BrainSpec is a needleless brain biopsy company seeking to enable accurate, efficient and non-invasive brain disorders diagnosis. Formed in May 2015 at a brainstorming session hosted by the iHub at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, the company has a cloud-based software platform designed to make MRS technology accessible to clinicians and researchers alike. BrainSpec explains on its website: “The software combines a linear combinations model based post-processing back-end that represents the most accurate method of measuring brain metabolites with a highly intuitive and user-friendly front-end web-based user interface.”
The company says it is working with scanner manufacturers including GE, Philips and Siemens. It raised about $2 million last year, according to an SEC Form D.
