2018 ESP Award Nominee: Summit Medical Minne Ties Agile MMF

October 8, 2018 By Daniel Seeger

The 2018 Excellence in Surgical Products Awards will be presented in the November/December issue of Surgical Products. Leading up to the publication of that issue, nominees will be featured on the Surgical Products website.

Category: OR Equipment and Accessories

Product description and innovation synopsis:

Minne Ties Agile MMF is an innovative approach to achieving maxilla-mandibular fixation (MMF) and is a safe, simple, and efficient alternative to existing wire or hybrid devices. Minne Ties sutures are made of medical grade, braided polyester and over-molded with a polypropylene polymer. Each suture features a smooth, self-locking and infinitely adjustable clasp head with rounded corners on one end and a stainless steel blunt tip introducer on the other. The application technique of the sutures mimics embrasure wiring, but the fastening technique of threading the blunt tip through the clasp head resembles the simplistic functionality of a zip tie.

What sets this product apart from others available in the industry?

Unlike other systems on the market, Minne Ties is a non-invasive solution. Its design eliminates the need for both screws and wires — which minimizes the risks of wire sticks to the surgeon and decreases patient discomfort. Minne Ties are also efficient. It is the only sterile packaged and ready for use MMF device, and a full set can be applied in less than ten minutes, which is significantly less time than its competitors. Additionally, Minne Ties provide flexibility that all others lack, allowing the surgeon to apply and remove the sutures easily in both clinical and surgical settings.

How does this product benefit the surgical team and aid in better outcomes?

The Minne Ties design provides a safe application every time and minimizes the fear of injury from wire sticks. A full set of ties can be placed quickly and the absence of screws in the application, that can strip or loosen over time, relieves the need to worry about tooth root or bone damage while performing the procedure. Each suture takes significantly less space in the mouth, allowing better access for plating and increased visibility of the tissue cuff for suturing. Minne Ties can be used in conjunction with FDA cleared plating systems if desired or necessary.
