Tru-D SmartUVC is a portable UVC disinfection device that delivers one automated, measured dose of UVC to consistently disinfect an entire operating room, resulting in the ability to document disinfection results after each and every Tru-D room treatment. Tru-D operates from one placement within the room, ensuring significant pathogen reduction in direct and shadowed areas and eliminating the threat of human error in the disinfection process. Tru-D pioneered the UVC disinfection space in 2007 and is validated by more than fifteen independent studies, including the only randomized clinical trial on UVC disinfection.

What sets this product apart from others available in the industry?

Compensating for room variables including room size, shape, amount/location of equipment in the room, as well as wall reflectivity, Tru-D ensures up to 99.9 percent disinfection of all surfaces, both in direct line-of-sight and in shadowed areas. Tru-D is the only UVC disinfection device backed by a CDC-funded randomized clinical trial that proved its ability to reduce the risk of acquisition and infection of four major superbugs by a cumulative 30 percent and had a direct impact on every patient who entered a hospital’s doors. How does this product benefit the surgical team and aid in better outcomes?

As important as handwashing, manual cleaning, and antibiotic stewardship are to infection prevention protocols in the OR, so is incorporating enhanced terminal room disinfection. According to studies, more than 50 percent of healthcare surfaces are not properly disinfected, leaving behind pathogens that increase the risk of infection by 39–353 percent for the next patient who enters the room. Through a bundled approach to infection prevention, Providence St. Peter Hospital, in Olympia, Washington, implemented Tru-D in September 2017. With consistent use of Tru-D in the OR, the facility was able to drive the incidence of SSIs to zero.
