Joint Academy
Headquarters: Malmo, Sweden
Founded: 2014
Leader: Leif Dahlberg, co-founder and chief medical officer
Joint Academy also falls under the patient empowerment umbrella. It’s a digital clinic that delivers instruction and support to people with osteoarthritis to prevent and reverse chronic symptoms. A certified physical therapist virtually guides the patient through the program and can oversee progress over time.
Founded by osteoarthritis researcher Leif Dahlberg and his son, Jakob, the platform is an outgrowth of Arthro Therapeutics. Jakob Dahlberg was a computer science student who decided he could scale up his father’s research to a global level with the help of software. Arthro Therapeutics works with public health and private organizations in Sweden, the U.S. and Europe.
