AdhereTech
Headquarters: New York
Founded: 2011
Leader: Josh Stein, co-founder and CEO
AdhereTech makes smart pill bottles to measure medication use and remind patients via their phones to take their prescriptions.
The company’s bottles use sensors and a built-in cellular chip to analyze medication adherence in real time and passively send it to pharmacies and healthcare providers. Patients who miss a dose receive an automatic alert via text message or phone call, and from lights and chimes on the bottle itself.
AdhereTech’s biggest customers are drugmakers and specialty pharmacies, which focus on expensive drugs for people with complex medical conditions. The company has raised $3.8 million over four rounds. It has plenty of competition in the smart bottle space and touts its device’s six-month battery life and ease of use for older patients.
