Teleflex Medical OEM: New suture tech to reduce tissue strangulation
Teleflex Medical OEM (Gurnee, Ill.) recently announced its Force Fiber Fusion suture, which boasts a two-in-one construct along its length. The suture transitions from a round suture to a flat braid center segment and back to a round suture. The Force Fiber Fusion has a broader footprint and a more uniform distribution of pressure to similar sutures — potentially reducing tissue strangulation and a cutting effect in applications where tissue pull-through is a concern, according to Teleflex Medical OEM.Teleflex Medical OEM makes the Fusion suture from ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene. The company says the manufacturing process involves braiding through a proprietary, continuous process that creates seamless transitions between each segment, versus look-alike products in which a flat segment is “sewn” onto two round sutures.
The Force Fiber Fusion suture is FDA cleared for approximation and/or ligation of soft tissue, including the use of allograft tissue for orthopedic procedures.
