The Invigorator

(Collections of The Bakken Museum, Minneapolis)
Another turn-of-the-century item, the Invigorator electric belt was made for men born too early for Viagra. Made in 1905 by the U.S.-based Dr. McLaughlin Co., this silk-covered belt came with electrodes and some handy attachments — all for $4! Women were not left out, either. Not pictured but also housed at The Bakken Museum are a number of metal vibrators the size and shape of today’s hairdryers and recommended for the treatment of “hysteria.”
