ACSYS Lasertechnik (Lenexa, Kan.) recently announced the development of its patent-pending, ultra-short pulse, quick-change laser system for marking, engraving and cutting for medical device applications.
The system uses a galvanometer scanner equipped with either f-theta marking optics or a laser cutting head to provide interchangeable flexibility and precision. When in marking mode, the system can perform corrosion-free laser marking on stainless-steel devices for UDI markings on medical devices or instruments. Its deep black marking capabilities make the color and contrast of the mark visible regardless of the viewing angle. High-contrast “white” surface markings, which are easily read, can be produced reliably on glass or sapphire surfaces.
The system also features quick, burr-free laser engraving that uses ultrashort pulse lasers, enabling functional microstructures on a variety of materials. It can be customized, specifically configured and equipped to meet a variety of medical device requirements, according to the company.
