Billerica-based blood-focused medical device company Belmont Instrument Corp. has won an order for 45 units of its Rapid Infuser technology from the Dutch military. No financial details of the order were disclosed.
The Rapid Infuser is a device used for the treatment of massive blood loss, which allows large amounts of blood or blood replacement fluids to be pumped safely into a patient. According to a release from Belmont Instrument, as much as one liter per minute can be delivered into a trauma patient’s bloodstream. The device is automated to an extent by monitoring air, temperature, and pressure sensors so that the right fluid flow pressure is kept while reducing risk to the patient, officials said.
