Boston Scientific (NYSE:BSX) yesterday announced that it officially opened its new Galway, Ireland facility.
The Marlborough, Mass.-based company’s €60 million expansion will house 250 employees in the three-story building, according to the Galway Daily newspaper.
“Our highly skilled workforce has made a significant contribution to the development of many innovative medical solutions, with our Galway site playing a key role in products in areas such as interventional cardiology, endoscopy and peripheral interventions,” chairman and CEO Mike Mahoney told Galway Daily.
Boston Scientific has operated out of Ireland for 25 years and is one of the top medtech employers in the industry. It employed 29,000 people globally in 2017 with more than 5,700 in Ireland alone.
The opening of the facility is part of a number of celebrations for Boston Scientific’s 25 year anniversary in Galway.
“Given the scale of our campus and workforce here, the support of the wider community has been especially important. I would like to acknowledge the contribution in turn that our employees have made to the local community, including raising over €2.6 million for local charities and organizations since 1994,” Boston Scientific Galway VP of operations James Lyons told TechCentral.
