Henkel has developed a system of flash cure for medical devices, disposables, and fiber optics. The products include two LED cure lights and two adhesives that offer instant cure.

The EQ CL28 LED Curejet—on display last week at MD&M West in Anaheim, California—is a high-intensity spot cure device with wide cure area. The intensity reaches up to 27 W/cm2 with a cure area up to 20 mm. Operators can take advantage of 380 nm and 405 nm and single or quad controller options for intensity adjustment. Stackable LED heads offer 25 mm center to center spacing. The LED system requires no warm-up time, and features low power consumption with up to 20,000 hours of LED life.

For hand-held or stationary mount, take a look at the CL32 LED Spot. It is a light weight compact LED suited for prototyping, scale-up, and full production. The product features up to 3 W/cm2 and 365 nm and 405 nm LED heads. The compact design minimizes operator fatigue, while the small size and long focus area help with crowded or hard-to-reach bond areas. The Spot system can be used with battery or line power. Battery life is 3 hours.

Loctite 4902 is a highly flexible cyanoacrylate that features high elongation. The adhesive was featured among the top 10 industrial products in 2014 according to World Industrial Reporter. The instant flexible is ISO 10993 certified for medical devices and can flash cure metal to plastic and rubber to metal. It features fluorescence for detection.

Henkel’s Loctite UV adhesive 4311 is an instant adhesive with no tack or touch transfer. The flash cure adhesive is a high viscosity, clear to pale green adhesive designed for assembly applications, and suited for disposable medical devices. It can also be used on fiber optic components. The UV light cure properties facilitate rapid curing of exposed surface areas, thereby minimizing blooming and providing an alternative to solvent-borne accelerators. The adhesive is impact and peel resistant.
