The Limerick-based company said the development, labeled ACOT (Advanced Centre of Orthopaedic Technologies) marks the largest investment in its 42-year history. It also represents a significant milestone for advanced orthopedic manufacturing in the region, the company says.
Croom said the expansion encompasses a purpose-built, 38,000-square-foot facility. It designed the site to add capacity and establish a true R&D and industrialization center of excellence. The company expects ACOT to integrate the full spectrum of orthopedic manufacturing under one roof. That includes precision machining and grinding, palletized loading, additive manufacturing, heat treatment, electropolishing, anodizing, automated polishing, digital inspection and clean-and-pack operations.
The company said ACOT enables deeper integration across the product lifecycle for OEM partners, from early-stage design and prototyping through validated production. Its capabilities span shoulder, hip, knee, spine, trauma and sports medicine offerings.
Croom designed ACOT around trends in orthopedics, such as cementless fixation, robotic-assisted surgery and additive manufacturing. It will be solar-powered and digitally connected to enable sustainable manufacturing, the company said. Construction is underway now, and the company expects to complete the facility by the end of 2026.
The company developed ACOT with the support of Enterprise Ireland, the Irish government’s enterprise development agency. Learn more about Ireland’s medtech ecosystem here and read an interview about the company’s growing medtech prospects with IDA Ireland here.
Patrick Byrnes, Croom Medical CEO, said:
“ACOT is a strategic investment designed around where this industry is going next. For our OEM partners, it means deeper integration, advanced capability, and a facility built around their roadmaps. At the same time, it creates high-value roles and long-term career opportunities here in Croom, strengthening the local economy and the community that has supported us for over four decades. This facility was built on the trust our partners place in our team, and we’re proud that our growth benefits both our global customers and the town of Croom.”
