Cycling Mask Filters Pollution and Glows Red if Contamination is Near

January 11, 2019 By Tierney King

Ever been riding a bike or running down the street and been blasted with exhaust, smoke, or smog? That’s where French company, R-Pur, is here to help with their anti-pollution mask created for runners, cyclists, and bikers.

The R-Pur Nano consists of three parts: the filter, mask, and an app.

The filter removes fine particles and nanoparticles that can put an individual’s health at risk. The mask, which holds the filter, has a nautical, navy blue design that’s quite fashionable. This can be worn under motorcycle or bike helmets, and has an extraction valve that blows out hot air when you’re running or cycling.

The mask contains two straps: one is worn high around your head, while the other is worn at the top of your neck. Although it may not be comfortable to wear every single day, it has been designed to be more flexible and flattering than most disposable particle masks.

The material contains a beading coating, allowing it to be waterproof and breathable. Additionally, whether you’re running or riding in the summer or winter, the thermo-control anti-perspiration technology allows individuals to stay cool in the heat and protects from cold air in the winter.

The R-Pur also illuminates the way with different colors, but if your glow turns to red you may want to run the other way. As the mask monitors the air around you, it glows green if the air is good and red if it’s bad.

Lastly, the company’s app tracks wear and tear on the filter, and an algorithm will let you know when it’s time for a new one. Depending on the usage, a filter usually lasts between five and 12 weeks.
