VentriFlo: An improved heart pump for open-heart surgery
VentriFlo (Pelham, N.H.) has developed a novel heart pump for use in open-heart surgery that the company says is able to deliver true physiologic pulsatile flow — which could potentially reduce the complications suffered by people placed under continuous flow pumps during surgery. The device combines a large speaker with a durable sterile blood pumping cartridge in order to create a proprietary tool that recreates a true pulse through a standard cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) circuit.VentriFlo has completed successful pre-clinical, in-vivo testing at Dartmouth, the Cleveland Clinic and MGH. It has raised $3.4 million in seed financing and is now seeking $6 million in a Series A round to complete pediatric pump development and submit for an FDA 510(k) clearance.
