Digital health startups to watch:
Somatus
Somatus’ $325 million Series E funding round was one of the largest healthcare venture capital deals last year. The company’s proprietary RenalIQ kidney care platform tracks patient health and identifies at-risk patients using predictive analytics and machine learning algorithms.
In November 2022, the company said it became the first and only kidney care company to win Validation Institute certification for its claim that kidney disease patients who receive Somatus Transition of Care Assessment (TCA) services have fewer hospital readmissions than similar patients who don’t receive TCA services.
“This external validation further demonstrates the effectiveness of our whole-person, personalized care model in improving health outcomes for patients. We can help our patients with more healthy days out of the hospital,” Somatus Chief Medical Officer Dr. Joe Kimura said when announcing the certification.
So far in 2023 the company has expanded one partnership and launched another.
“Together, we will deliver the best care and services to our patients to slow disease progression, achieve more healthy days, and improve quality of life,” Somatus co-founder and CEO, Dr. Ikenna Okezie said after the latest deal.
