ESP Award Winners: Lighting Category

March 23, 2016 By Rebecca Rudolph-Witt

The Excellence in Surgical Products (ESP) Award winners were announced in the November/December 2015 issue of Surgical Products. “Our readers are surgical industry experts who pride themselves on being educated professionals on the cusp of innovation,” said Editor Rebecca Rudolph. “That is reflected in all the Excellence in Surgical Products awards we publish, and certainly held true this year as many cutting edge and innovative technologies were recognized.”

The winners in the lighting category include:

First Place: Pare Surgical’s NOVA Surigcal Light Source

The NOVA Surgical Light Source is a disposable hand held surgical light that brings better visualization  to the surgical field. Its three LEDs illumination are positioned to provide light  virtually eliminating  shadows. Gives surgeons the opportunity to see inside the human body when operating through small incisions better than ever before. The company’s three LED lighting system provides light directly onto the surgical site shining uniformly across deep dark incisions. Surgeons say the additional light enables clarity and confidence enhance performance, efficiency and safety and allows them to do surgeries more quickly and effectively. The NOVA also delivers the RF energy from electrosurgical generators, using the cut and coag buttons located on the top of the device. Because the light are powered from self-contained batteries, the device can also be used as a portable light source by the surgeon or scribe nurse to gain even better illumination of the surgical site.

Second Place: Steris’ HarmonyAIR M-Series Surgical Lighting System

The HarmonyAIR M-Series Surgical Lighting System uses the latest in LED lighting technology to produce bright, white, cool light that enables the surgeon to work comfortably and discern the details of exposed tissue with absolute clarity. Its innovative suspensions and intuitive controls allow OR staffs to do their jobs more efficiently and with fewer frustrations. Pure, bright white lights with superior optics provide clarity, and because they are cooler, comfort as well. Suspensions with a sleek design that’s modular and upgradeable with an open architecture allows for extensive customization and accessory options. The new HarmonyAIR M-Series Surgical Lighting System aims to ultimately create a better experience in the OR for the surgical team, enabling them to focus on the patient and deliver better patient outcomes.

Third Place: Enova Illumination’s Cyclops XLT-225

The Cyclops XLT-225 is the world’s brightest LED surgical headlight and was designed for “deep cavity” surgeons who need the most powerful, pure, white light for visualizing the surgical cavity. Unlike traditional fiber optic systems which require long, heavy, and cumbersome cables, the Cylcops XLT-225 is completely tether-less allowing the surgeon to move freely within the surgical suite without interruption.

Powered by Enova’s state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery pack, the PP4 is the longest –lasting and most powerful battery on the market. The Cyclops XLT-225 provides over 225,000 LUX (measured at 14 inches) for four – 12 hours of continuous power. In short, the Cyclops XLT-225 illuminates the surgical field with better light and better freedom of movement thereby liberating the surgeon and the surgical team to provide greater performance and better surgical outcomes for patients.
