Excelsys offers industry’s only fanless modular power supply with medical safety approvals

November 17, 2016 By Nic Abraham

unnamedThe CoolX600 Series, the revolutionary new convection-cooled modular power supply from Excelsys Technologies – delivering a remarkable 600W of output power without using fan-assisted cooling – is the only fanless modular power supply on the market to meet medical safety approvals. Based on Excelsys’s innovative patented modular resonant technology, the CoolX600 Series offers system designers best-in-class efficiency and reliability in addition to the most comprehensive feature set and specifications available. Also offered is an industry-leading five-year warranty that ensures quality, reliability and the lowest total cost of ownership.

The CoolX600 is fully safety certified to IEC60601-1 3rd edition and IEC60601-1-2 4th Edition (EMC) for medical applications. Key medical features include BF rating (Body Floating), dual fusing, 2 x MOPP and <300uA leakage current. Other features include 4KV input surge immunity and the ability to withstand input voltages of up to 300VAC, making it ideal for use in remote locations and those subject to input voltage disturbances. Typical medical applications include medical clinical diagnostic equipment, medical lasers, dialysis equipment, imaging and clinical chemistry.

“Excelsys has designed in the ability to meet a plethora of global safety/compliance and regulatory requirements, including passing the 5000-meter altitude requirements,” said Dermot Flynn, Sales Director of Excelsys Technologies. “With its extensive feature set and compliance to emerging standards, such as EN60601-1-2 4th edition, the CoolX600 Series is future-proofed to meet high-reliability medical electronics applications now and in the future.”

The CoolX600 sets a new standard in power supply reliability by delivering 25% longer lifetimes than competitive products. Enhanced thermal performance can be attained with the CoolX600 using system fans or by adding external conduction cooling. In addition to an industry-leading efficiency of up to 94%, the CoolX600 provides the most flexible, highest specification modular power supply available. Other features include a 24W standby power outputs (5V or 12V), which effectively offers another output, for system intelligence, cooling fans, displays, etc., as well as 5000m altitude operation.

Offering system integrators unparalleled flexibility, the CoolX600 can be populated with up to four CoolMods to provide up to four isolated DC outputs ranging from 2.5V to 58.0V. Outputs can be configured to the required set point voltages and connected in parallel of series for higher output current and/or higher output voltages. It also enables analogue and digital management with optional PMBus monitoring and control capability, and is user-field-configurable with plug-and-play power. Mounting options include base, side and Din Rail alternatives.
