Google Glass To Be Installed in Ambulances

CrowdOptic, a maker of mobile and wearable broadcasting solutions, and ProTransport-1, Northern California’s premier medical transport provider, have announced a software sales agreement under which ProTransport-1 will deploy the CrowdOptic Google Glass broadcasting solution in its ambulances and mobile medicine units.

ProTransport-1 will use Google Glass to broadcast real-time video evaluations of patients from ambulances during transport to the receiving healthcare institutions. This technology solution will aim to improve documentation and expand medical consultative opportunities for patients en route. 

“CrowdOptic’s see-what-I-see technology allows paramedics and nurses on our ambulances to broadcast the live view of complex cases to medical teams at the hospital”, said Glenn Leland, Chief Strategy Officer for ProTransport-1. “We additionally envision a variety of dispatch, navigation, documentation and operational processes will migrate to CrowdOptic and Google Glass over time” Leland added.

ProTransport-1, which in 2012 pioneered an award winning “connected ambulance” solution that advance-forwarded patient medical data such as vital signs to hospitals, is once again at the leading edge of using technology for emergency medical response. “We are pleased to be working with a visionary partner in ProTransport-1,” said Jim Kovach, M.D., vice president of business development for CrowdOptic, “and to be developing a solution that can eventually improve clinical outcomes and reduce costs on a wide scale across large fleets of thousands of ambulances.” 

ProTransport-1 also plans to use CrowdOptic’s technology to enhance the mobile medical setting, where it can enable a live, two-way educational forum between a patient in their home and the healthcare provider.
