Haptics
Haptics technology (touch feedback) will be most commonly used in medtech for training purposes, such as simulations for surgical procedures. There are some inhibiting factors to growth in this sector, including cost, complexity, software compatibility and debugging issues. One company that has incorporated haptic technology into its surgical offering is Transenterix. Its Senhance surgical robotic system is a multi-port robotic system that brings the advantages of robotic surgery to patients while enabling surgeons with innovative technology. Haptic feedback and eye-sensing camera control features allow surgical teams to better navigate the surgical site.
Senhance Robotic Surgical System is seeing clinical usage in France as part of the company’s Clinical Leadership Program and has been granted CE mark. It is not available in the United States.
