IN THE AIR
After launch, another member of the flight operation team confirms the drone is airborne and tracks the flight on a map in real-time as it heads to its destination. The flight ops team also monitors weather and air traffic from the ground. When the drone is in the air, it autonomously pilots toward the destination along a pre-determined course of waypoints. Each Zip drone has two GPS navigation systems and multiple communications systems for safety. GPS is only accurate to about 5 meters, so a more precise custom navigation system guides the aircraft and reports its position back to flight operations down to a single centimeter. This relative positioning system uses flight components on the drone.
