The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) most recent Vital Signs report dives into the issues of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and what can be done by clinicians to prevent the sometimes deadly superbugs. Of course, various factors play into HAIs, so the CDC points to things healthcare workers can do. They include:
- Prevent infections linked to catheters and surgery by following infection prevention recommendations and polices
- Observe antibiotic resistance patterns in your practice
- Isolate patients when necessary
- Prescribe antibiotics correctly, knowing when to stop treatments
