SANTA BARBARA, Calif., June 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ — Inogen has
been honored with the Gold Medical Design Excellence Award (MDEA)
for the Inogen One Portable Oxygen Concentrator. The Medical
Design Excellence Awards competition is the only awards program
that exclusively recognizes contributions and advances in the
design of medical products.
The Inogen One, developed by Goleta, California based Inogen,
Inc. is used to provide supplemental oxygen to long term oxygen
therapy patients in their homes. Replacing traditional bulky
stationary oxygen concentrators as well as portable oxygen tanks,
the Inogen One provides oxygen users independence in their homes,
around their communities, and even while traveling. “Our
customers and the patients we directly serve are the true
recipients of this award. It is our unwavering commitment to
oxygen users and their quest for independence that compelled us to
develop this oxygen therapy solution that has been recognized
throughout the industry,” said Raymond Huggenberger, Inogen
CEO.
Entries in the Medical Design Excellence Awards are evaluated on
the basis of their design and engineering features, user-related
functions that improve healthcare delivery and change traditional
medical attitudes or practices, features that provide enhanced
benefits to the patient, and the ability of the product development
team to overcome design and engineering challenges so that the
product meets its clinical objectives. A comprehensive review of
the entries was performed by an impartial, multidisciplinary panel
of third-party jurors with expertise in biomedical engineering,
human factors, industrial design, medicine, and diagnostics.
The 2011 MDEA Winners Ceremony was held June 8, 2011 in
conjunction with the Medical Design & Manufacturing East
Conference and Exposition in New York City’s Jacob K. Javits
Convention Center.
