K2M Announces Global Launch of CHESAPEAKE® Anterior-Lumbar Stabilization System at 2011 North American Spine Society Annual Meeting

November 4, 2011 By AxoGen, Inc.

LEESBURG, Va.–(BUSINESS
WIRE
)–K2M, Inc., a spinal device company developing innovative solutions
for the treatment of complex spinal pathologies and minimally invasive
procedures, today announced the global launch of the latest product within the
family of CHESAPEAKE® Stabilization Systems at the 2011 North American Spine
Society Annual Meeting (NASS) in Chicago, furthering its commitment to treating
the full spectrum of spine pathologies from the most complex to degenerative
needs.

CHESAPEAKE Anterior-Lumbar, manufactured from both biocompatible
PEEK polymer and titanium, allows for anterior stabilization and fixation with
a zero-profile design. Additionally, the system utilizes innovative
instrumentation, such as K2Ms Anterior Insertion Ramp, which provides parallel
distraction and controlled threaded insertion, while allowing for a zero-impact
load on the interbody. The system provides screw fixation through K2Ms
revolutionary tifix® Locking Technology, whereby each screw head forms an
autogenic lock to the implant upon insertion.

“The unique tifix Locking Technology eliminates the fiddle
factor found in other ALIF stand-alone devices that feature integrated screws.
The one-step locking mechanism not only adds simplicity to the system, but is a
proven technology with an established history of clinical applications around
the world,” according to Dr. John I. Williams, Orthopedic Surgeon at Ortho
NorthEast.

The clinical application of the CHESAPEAKE Stabilization
Systems will be shown in a Hands-On Demonstration at NASS tomorrow, November 4,
at 10:00 am Central (K2M Booth #1616).

“The CHESAPEAKE Anterior-Lumbar Stabilization System is an
important expansion of our product offering for treating Degenerative Disc
Disease (DDD), as well as more complex pathologies,” stated Eric Major, K2Ms
President and CEO. “Given the rapid growth of our global distribution team and
increasing number of surgeon customers, it is critical that we continue to
introduce differentiated technologies with leading innovation, such as CHESAPEAKE.”
