The 12 largest medtech employers of 2020 – and what their employees really think

October 27, 2020 By Danielle Kirsh

9. Boston Scientific

Number of employees: 36,000
Glassdoor rating: 4.4/5
90% would recommend to a friend.

Boston Scientific (NYSE:BSX) prides itself on a commitment to solving the challenges that matter most and to caring deeply for human life, according to its employment page. The company suggests that if you’re a natural problem-solver with the imagination, courage and spirit to make a meaningful difference, then Boston Scientific is where you should work.

Here’s what current and former employers have to say:

“Pros: Competitive pay; respect at all levels, from the top down; transparency to business and divisional decisions; feel valued as an employee and not like a number unlike other large medical device companies; diversity and inclusion is addressed on an ongoing basis and the company backs up their words with important actions in the community and within the company. Cons: Some product development is not up to speed with industry expectations or competitor products.” —Current quality engineer

“Pros: Inclusive culture, multiple ERGs (employee resource groups); a great place to learn and be involved in different aspects of medical device manufacturing; collaborative environment; good team environment; good people; fast pace in the manufacturing areas. Cons: Depending on the supervisor you report to, there could be limiting conversation about professional development.” —Current manufacturing engineer

“Pros: Everybody is collaborative and willing to help whenever; you can’t be scared to ask questions because there’s no reason to be scared in the first place. Cons: The work environment [could] be a little more boisterous. Yes, it is a workplace, but it’d make people a lot more jovial if there were more random nerf gun breakouts.” —Current employee

“Pros: Monthly company meetings to ensure everyone knows expectations and predicted changes. Cons: Management not really interested in employee issues; their focus is on the bottom line and not how to get there in a way that works well for all teams within the site; management says what you want to hear but does not deliver on promises to make workflow better for the team.” —Former employee

“Pros: Good networking; good mentors; friendly people; interesting work. Cons: Rely on turnkey solutions for a lot of design stuff.” —Former employee

“Pros: Work-life balance is good and compensation is reasonable. Cons: Highly political environment; job growth opportunities are mediocre at best.” —Former employee
