Leverage VitalPath’s in-house laser capabilities to get prototypes FAST, including laser marking, tube cutting, welding, ablation, laser machining and more
VitalPath is a full-service contract manufacturer of complex catheter devices, precision laser cut and machined components, and laser welded critical assemblies used in a variety of markets including electrophysiology, structural heart, neurovascular, peripheral vascular, renal denervation, and ventricular assist. The company’s in-house engineering expertise related to laser welding, cutting, laser machining, and ablation, working with a range of metal and plastic materials enables flexible, fast turn-around. VitalPath’s facility in Cokato, Minn., specializes in complex components with 25 years of experience, 36,000 square-feet of manufacturing, ISO 13485-2016 certification and FDA registration as a finished device manufacturer.
The VitalPath team’s extensive engineering and manufacturing experience includes the processing of a wide-range of difficult to handle materials such as titanium, platinum, stainless steel, nitinol and other precious metals. They also work with a number of non-metallic materials such as Teflon, PVC, Acrylic, Delrin, and PTFE.
VitalPath partners with customers for low to high-volume manufacturing, product assembly, engineering services and rapid prototyping for the following capabilities:
- Laser Marking
Laser marking offers a precise, sterilization-proof, and cost-effective way to add high contrast marks to a variety of materials including metal alloys and polymers. Laser marking offers an alternative to more invasive mechanical engraving and results in a clean surface free of debri, reducing the need for additional operations. VitalPath offers custom laser marking to meet various needs such as sequential serial numbers or part number IDs on medical devices such as implants, depth markers on catheter shafts, and unique identifiers on the catheter hub or handle.
- Laser Tube Cutting
By partnering with VitalPath, you have access to 7 different wave lengths of lasers to cover a wide variety of round and flat materials, including stainless steel, nitinol, MP35N, titanium, precious metals, as well as plastics or polymers including PEEK, pebax, and polyurethanes. The team’s expertise ranges from flexible hypotubes to baskets and from very small, delicate parts to very long, continuous parts.
- Laser Welding
Welding dissimilar materials is no problem for the VitalPath team, in fact, it’s their specialty. From pull wires to capped needles and a variety of metals and polymers.
- Laser Ablating
VitalPath provides ablation of reflowed material from the outer layer of the catheter shaft or marker band as well as the ability to cut or ablate through multiple layers of material such as urethane, braid and polyimide materials.
- Laser Machining
Laser machining offers value added features like adding a step or a chamfer on the edges of the tube. Laser micromachining also allows you to add texture or a pattern onto a part with varying depths in the wall of a tube.
- Laser Drilling
The VitalPath team offers laser drilling capabilities as well. An example of one benefit of this capability would be to laser drill precise, micro holes along the length of a catheter to allow for aspiration.
- Wire Forming
Automated forming of stylets from .016” to .063” with cut to length capabilities for straight wire sizes from .008” to .063”. Stylet finishing capabilities offer chamfered, rounded or squared ends as well as clean room ultrasonic cleaning and passivation.
- Extensive Pull Ring Capabilities
Leverage VitalPath’s range of component capabilities for pull ring assemblies, including cut to length, tube cutting, welding or braising of the wire onto the ring, and custom configurations up to 4 wires to meet your most demanding steerability requirements. Customer’s trust the VitalPath engineering team’s 25 years of experience to evaluate design requirements and make recommendations to ensure tensile strength of the wires, weld strength, and the directional design of the pull ring meet application requirements.
- Ultrasonic cleaning and passivation of metal components within a clean room environment
