Lightower’s Limitless Networks power eMedicine innovations in healthcare

March 31, 2016 By Nic Abraham

unnamedLightower Fiber Networks, the premier provider of all-fiber, high-performance networking solutions delivered over its own network, recently explained how Lightower’s Limitless Networks exceed the most demanding network requirements of advanced technology initiatives in health care – both today and into the future.

Current innovations in eHealth technology can be classified in one of three main categories: Real-Time Communications, Store-and-Forward Activities, and Remote Monitoring.  Individual applications driving these aspects of telehealth include technologies like telesurgery, video consultations, advanced imaging and diagnostics, universal doctor and patient access, mobile health, and remotely monitored and controlled medical devices.

In Frost & Sullivan’s 2015 report titled Health care and Medical Device Connectivity and Interoperability, the analyst stated that health care trends are moving towards personalized medicine that revolves around a more customized care model. With this model, Frost & Sullivan predicted connected health care infrastructure as the binding force enabling collaboration within the health care sector. Furthermore, the analyst firm acknowledged hospitals’ need for connected devices and health care IT solutions for centralized monitoring and real-time data analysis.

All of these innovations in patient care are powered by the underlying network of the health care organization. As more and more of these technologies come online, the need for bandwidth and network performance continues to grow at a mindboggling rate.  According to a 2015 study conducted by Accenture Consulting, 41% of health care executives say their organization’s data volume has grown more than 50% in just one year. In order for eHealth applications to work optimally, network planners must have a network in place to support these massive amounts of traffic.

Lightower can custom-design an all-fiber network that provides diverse, secure, and redundant connectivity everywhere it is needed with connections from 10 MBPS to 100 GBPS.  Lightower also delivers options for dedicated private networks, dark fiber solutions, and encryption.  As the Strategic Network Partner of a health care organization, Lightower offers long-term strategic network planning to stay ahead of ever increasing bandwidth demands and ever expanding service locations. With the company’s custom and scalable network services, doctors and patients have access to an endless supply of advanced eHealth applications and data, securely, and on-demand, throughout the medical ecosystem of care provider offices, hospitals, imaging facilities, data centers, health information exchanges, and other facilities, both locally and regionally.

“Network performance and capacity are critical dependencies for the roll out of advanced health care technologies,” commented Rob Shanahan, CEO of Lightower. “As health care organizations grow in size and utilize advanced technologies for expanding patient care, Lightower will be there to build and manage the networks needed for those applications.  Lightower’s Limitless Networks already successfully power more than 250 of the nation’s leading health care organizations. Providers can be confident knowing that their organization is running on a reliable and secure network, so that they can focus on what really matters, patient care.”

Lightower’s complete suite of all-fiber solutions is available to health care organizations of all sizes. For more information on what Lightower delivers for health care providers, please visit www.lightower.com/limitless/health-care.
