Lubrizol Engineered Polymers announces that it is now offering a series of polyether-based thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs), with a hardness range from 74 to 90 shore A, for use in water management applications. This new product series, produced under the Estane TPU product platform, meets WRAS (Water Regulations Advisory Scheme) regulations for certified materals that have contact with drinking water, based on the standard BS6920 and NSF (NSF/ANSI Standard 61 on Drinking Water System Components) certifications.
WRAS’s and NSF’s certified listings greatly expands Lubrizol’s broad and innovative engineered polymers offering in applications related to water management, where high-performing TPU solutions are applied in parts for water distribution and tanks. Several grades by WRAS have been certified for use with water up to 23°C, and Estane 58197 NAT 022 has been certified for use with water up to 50°C.
WRAS-certified grades Estane 58315 NAT 035 and 58311 NAT 028, additionally, meet corresponding food service regulations under the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Further, Estane 54640 NAT 031, which is especially designed for food belts, meets FDA and EU (10-2011) regulations.
Lubrizol’s portfolio of engineered polymer solutions offers other FDA and EU-compliant materials, available with a broad shore hardness range and different chemical base. Lubrizol’s solutions for food processing and water management are also finding increasing use at customers that have stringent demands for materials compliant with recognized and requested certifications. These simplify the selection of key raw materials and can speed up product development time, shortening the time-to market for new product launches in the food processing industry and drinking water field, and supporting the potential end-certification of drinking water- or food contact-related products.
Lubrizol’s engineered polymer portfolio offers a wide-range of highly versatile materials (to be applied in belts, films, profiles, hoses and tubes and coated fabrics, among other applications) with outstanding abrasion-, chemical-, hydrolysis- and high-heat resistance. High-performance polycaprolactone copolyester- or copolymer-based specialties are available for the industrial, automotive, electronics and sports and recreation markets.
