Maxon Motor is investing roughly $30 million (CHF 30 million) to add a new Innovation Center to its headquarters in Switzerland. The expansion construction of the new Innovation Center is set to begin in February and expected to be completed and ready for use by summer 2018.
The construction of the new Innovation Center is set to begin this month, with the center completed and ready for use by summer 2018.
The new Innovation Center is expanding the Sachseln, Switzerland headquarters and building next to the company’s commuter railway station Ewil Maxon. The building will feature a floor area of nearly 25,000 sq. feet and will meet stringent quality demands in the medical field by equipping the production area with clean rooms, including a biocompatible room, according to the company.
The new addition will also be a space for research and development and a location to produce medical drives, doubling the medical department’s current space. Company officials expect the center to develop and manufacture some of Maxon Motors’s smallest drives yet, some with a thickness of only 4 mm. Tiny motors are used in medical devices including insulin pumps, medication delivery systems and surgical robots.
While maxon motor already has 30 sales companies and 6 production sites worldwide, the new Innovation Center will focus more on research and development, medical technology (micro motors), complete drive systems (mechatronics) and Industry 4.0 (networking of production).
