Kinitics Automation introduced a linear actuator at MD&M West that is based on shape memory alloy. The Nitinol material, according to Kinitics, gives the actuator some significant benefits compared to current technology: direct linear motion at high force, small package size, precision and minimal infrastructure requirements.
