I’ll admit it. We’ve got a soft spot for startups at Medical Design & Outsourcing. Medical device startups put it all on the line to bring medtech innovations to physicians and patients. And it’s not easy.
Fundraising seems harder than ever as venture capitalists burn hundreds of billions of dollars on AI startups and large language model developers that are nowhere near turning a profit. The IPO market has yet to recover to its pre-pandemic levels, and strategic medtech OEMs are waiting longer and longer to buy even the most promising startups. Regulations are changing, supply chains are straining, and government support for science and research has never been more imperiled.
But the stakes are too high and the opportunity too great for startup founders, leaders and their teams to give up. At MDO, we pledge to do our best to help. This special report is just one part of that promise, offering technical tips and strategic advice for startups.
This special report’s sponsors also want to do their part. In fact, our conversations around the importance of medtech startups inspired us to launch this project. The difference between failure and success for medtech startups often comes down to whether they had help from external experts early in the process.
And when we’re talking with MDO readers who work at major OEMs, they constantly cite our startup coverage as a way we help them stay on top of the latest technology and acquisition opportunities. That’s a big reason why we go out of our way to cover startups and the challenges they face in their mission to improve patient care.
I’d like to extend my sincere gratitude to all the experts at startups, major OEMs and their industry partners who have graciously lent us their time and expertise for this special report and our ongoing startup coverage, and to thank the sponsors of this special report for their support.
And of course, thanks to you, the reader, for your time and attention, and the work you do to improve care for patients across the globe.
