Inspire Medical Systems (Golden Valley, Minn.) launched its fourth generation of the Inspire system in 2018. It features a neurostimulator that is 40% smaller and 18% thinner than neurostimulators in other generations of the system. The system also has an 11-year battery life that doesn’t require recharging. Patients with the device implants can also undergo MRI scans of the head and extremities.
Now, Inspire Medical Systems’s fifth-generation of the neurostimulator is in the concept phase of development. The company is also developing a cloud-based patient management system that will allow physicians to monitor patient compliance and therapy efficacy.
