From the winners: “The NEBULAE Smoke Removal System (SRS) is a closed-loop laparoscopic smoke removal device that can maintain pressure while removing surgical smoke from the patient. The SRS reduces CO2 gas usage, lessens surgical time and improves the hospital’s carbon footprint, while minimalizing exposure to surgical smoke hazards.”
“Surgical smoke has been a documented issue for the operating room since the 1970s. More recently state legislations have begun taking action to reduce exposure to the staff and patient through implementing a mandated use of surgical smoke removal devices in the OR. The team at NTI decided adding a smoke removal device to our minimally invasive technology portfolio is a great fit. A closed-loop prototype was created. After some tweaks, this became to be the common-day NEBULAE SRS. The SRS was FDA 510(k) cleared on March 25, 2021.”
“Competitor devices offer smoke removal, but they do not operate in a closed-loop environment, reduce usage of CO2, or include any standard luer lock trocar connection. The SRS does all of this plus keeps your OR safe by eliminating exposure to surgical smoke hazards. This device is gaining traction throughout the country, especially with upcoming legislation enforcements for surgical smoke removal. In September the Society of Laparoscopic & Robotic Surgeons awarded the SRS with the Innovation of the Year Award.”
