MedTech Innovator names 50 startups in cohort for 2022 accelerator program

June 7, 2022 By Sean Whooley

MedTech Innovator medtech startups accelerator medical deviceMedTech Innovator today announced 50 medical device startups that were chosen to participate in the organization’s accelerator program.

The organization’s flagship, four-month accelerator program supports startups around the world with innovative medical device, diagnostic and digital health technologies. The startups selected for the 2022 cohort will receive visibility and access to leading medtech manufacturers, providers, investors and other industry stakeholders.

According to a news release, at the conclusion of the program, MedTech Innovator will award $500,000 in cash and in-kind prizes in the final competition, which will take place at AdvaMed’s MedTech Conference in Boston in October.

“Over the past nine years, MedTech Innovator has established a unique track record of identifying and supporting leading startups, with 95% of our graduates either still in business or having been acquired,” MedTech Innovator CEO Paul Grand said in the release. “The 2022 MedTech Innovator cohort represents a diverse and focused group of innovators, and we are excited to work with them alongside our corporate partners and industry advisors to ensure their success in addressing important unmet needs and improving patient care.”

The 10th iteration of the annual program launches on June 15-16 in Mountain View, California. Leadership teams from each of the 50 startups will attend networking events and workshops with partners and other industry leaders.

MedTech Innovator’s accelerator program had a 5% acceptance rate, with the 50 chosen startups selected from a pool of more than 1,000 applications representing 49 countries and 43 U.S. states. A subset of 28 early-stage companies will also participate in MedTech Innovator’s corporate mentorship program.

At The MedTech Conference in October, all 50 companies will present in showcase panels. During the conference, five startups from the accelerator cohort will compete for the “Execution Award” and another five will advance to compete in the “Grand Final” competition. An audience vote will determine the winner of a $350,000 non-dilutive grand prize and the 2022 title. Further cash and in-kind awards will be presented, including incubator space from Johnson & Johnson Innovation — JLABS.

Included in the selections is DermaSensor, the winner of the MedTech Innovator Mid-Stage Companies Pitch Event hosted at DeviceTalks Boston last month.
