Montagu Private Equity’s medtech CDMO group has a new name

September 11, 2025 By Jim Hammerand

The Exalta logo After closing its deal to combine Tyber Medical, Intech and Resolve Surgical Technologies, Montagu Private Equity is now calling the contract development and manufacturing group Exalta.

“Exalta reflects both the strength of our foundation and our bold ambition for the future,” Exalta CEO Olivier Wolber said in a news release. “Bringing together global teams, broad expertise and large-scale capabilities, Exalta embodies our transformation and our unwavering commitment to serve customers, and ultimately patients around the world.”

Exalta says its new name is inspired by the verb to exalt, “meaning to uplift, to advance, to bring forward with distinction.”

The new name “captures the essence of who we are and where we’re headed: a next-generation, integrated partner to medtech OEMs around the world,” the company said.

Exalta has two business units: Manufacturing Solutions for scaled production of precision components at scale, and Integrated OEM Solutions for “turnkey, regulatory-cleared systems to accelerate market introductions.”

Montagu combined the companies to create what it described as a “leading contract supplier of systems for spine, trauma, extremities, sports medicine and enabling technologies,” with plans to later expand into other markets.

Montagu also owns Medical Device Components (MDC), which develops and manufactures components made of nitinol and platinum group metals for minimally invasive medical devices and systems. Montagu paid $700 million to buy MDC from Johnson Matthey in 2024 and later that year added nitinol-based medical components maker Lighteum to MDC.

When the deal closed in April, the group now known as Exalta listed its offerings as:

  • “FDA-cleared and CE-marked technologies including PEEK interbodies, plates, screws, sternal closure systems, cabling, flexible reamers, handles and the SMADE IoT surgical asset tracking system
  • “Decades of clinical experience designing, developing, manufacturing and sustaining systems for Trauma, Extremities, Sports Medicine, Spine and Cardio-thoracic markets
  • “Scaled, agile operations with approximately 1,500 employees across 12 vertically integrated sites on three continents, and best-in-class equipment allowing for cost-efficient manufacturing of the highest precision and quality.
  • “Flexible end-to-end model supporting the full spectrum of our customers’ needs including contract manufacturing, co-development, and private labeling as a manufacturer of record – all at scale.
  • “Comprehensive portfolio and expertise in precision manufacturing of surgical instruments, implants and sterilization containers, enabling accelerated development processes and simplifying supply chain management for our OEM customers
  • “Unique regulatory capabilities including filing and sustaining 510(k), EU-MDR, CE-mark registrations for Class I, II and III surgical devices.”
