The Lap-BandLink™ Patient Care Network (http://www.lapbandhcp.com) is a new, web-based referral platform for connecting primary care physicians and bariatric surgeons. The password-protected, invite-only site, which is being launched by Allergan includes only those bariatric surgeons that are certified to perform the LAP-BAND® System procedure.
In addition to assisting with the referral process, the site aims to foster better communication and enhance the PCP role in patient aftercare. So, for example, if Dr. Smith wants to refer his patient to a bariatric surgeon, but doesn’t currently have a relationship with one, this site allows the doctor to log on and search for a surgeon in his patient’s geographic area.
Once on the site the doctor can view the profiles of bariatric surgeons and note referrals from other known and trusted physicians. In addition to viewing credentials and experience, that surgeon’s contact information is also provided in pursuing the professional relationship.
