NIH Director Dr. Francis Collins to Present Keynote Address at Partnering for Global Health Forum 2011

March 18, 2011 By Biotechnology Industry Organization

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Wednesday, March 16, 2011) – The Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) and BIO Ventures for Global Health (BVGH) announced today that Francis Collins, MD, PhD, Director of the National Institutes of Health, will provide the keynote address at the Partnering for Global Health Forum 2011. The conference will be co-located with the BIO International Convention and will be held June 27, 2011 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC.

“Dr. Collins’ vast experience and expertise in cutting-edge biomedical research can enlighten industry leaders striving to deliver much-needed innovative solutions to address the health needs of people in developing nations,” said Jim Greenwood, president and CEO of BIO.

NIH Director Francis Collins, MD, PhD will share his insights on how ground-breaking biotech innovations can serve the health needs of the world’s poorest. Dr. Collins oversees the work of the largest supporter of biomedical research in the world, spanning the spectrum from basic to clinical research. He is a physician-geneticist noted for his landmark discoveries of disease genes and his leadership of the international Human Genome Project.

“We are thrilled that Dr. Collins will be headlining the Partnering for Global Health Forum. NIH is at the center of supporting the basic science underlying product development for neglected diseases and increasingly involved in translating that science into new drugs, vaccines, and diagnostics,” said Melinda Moree, CEO of BIO Ventures for Global Health.

Partnering for Global Health 2011 will bring together leaders from global health, biopharmaceutical, academic, government, and donor communities and funders supporting global health R&D. Presentations will feature speakers developing and funding technologies and products that will save lives in the developing world.

Non-profit organizations representing the global health community registered for Partnering for Global Health Forum 2011 on June 27th will be eligible to participate in partnering at the Business Forum at the BIO International Convention, June 28th – 30th at no additional cost.  Persons eligible for this rate include representatives of funding organizations and non-profit, academic, governmental and non-governmental offices and organizations that are engaged in the fields of public health or neglected disease development. If you are eligible for this rate, please send an email to [email protected].

The BIO Business Forum offers an unparalleled opportunity for large and small biotech companies to gather in one place, at one time to engage in partnering discussions. The ability to schedule up to 80 one-on-one meetings within just a few short days with biotech leaders from around the world enables companies to maximize their ROI for the registration and travel investment for this event. In 2010, the BIO Business Forum hosted more than 17,000 partnering meetings with more than 2,000 companies participating. BIO One-on-One Partnering enables users to search for companies by clinical focus, stage of development, region, or keywords and set up private meetings with company executives.
