NKK Switches Ultra-Miniature Toggle, Rocker, and Pushbutton Devices

March 22, 2007 By Design World Staff

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (March 2007) – NKK Switches, an industry leader in the design and manufacturing of electromechanical switches, announces the G, GB, GB2 GW series of ultra-miniature toggle, rocker and pushbutton devices, which all feature NKK’s award-winning Sliding Twin Crossbar (STC) contact mechanism.

This extensive line up of ultra-miniature devices offers engineers the flexibility and diversity to complete the most difficult and unique designs for applications where miniaturization is a discriminating factor. Their ultra-miniature, thin size makes them a perfect fit for handheld instruments.  Additionally, they are the ideal choice for stringent telecom applications due to the flammability standards.

NKK’s STC contact mechanism provides unequalled logic level switching reliability and smooth detent actuation. The STC contacts self clean with every actuation. Terminal spacing is 0.100 in. X 0.100 in. to conform to standard PCB grid layout. In addition, these electromechanical switches are rated 0.4VA maximum @ 28V AC/DC maximum.

The G series toggles and rockers can be specified in single or double pole models and five different circuit combinations, including momentary and maintained options with up to three actuator positions.  PC terminal style mounting can be specified in straight, right angle and vertical mount versions for toggle actuators and straight PC or right angle mount for rockers.  Rocker caps can be ordered in red, black or white. The G series toggles and rockers are IECQ approved and totally process sealed for automated processing techniques, including flux-cleaning procedures.

The ultra-miniature GB pushbuttons are also process sealed. The bushing and housing are constructed of one molded piece and a rubber o-ring surrounds the actuator. A rubber seal surrounds the base where it fits into the actuator. Cap colors include red, black or white.

The GB2 and GW series of ultra-miniature and ultra-thin pushbutton and rocker devices offer a lower cost solution without compromising the integrity and quality of the NKK products. These devices feature a rating of UL94V-0 for flammability.

The GB2 pushbuttons are single pole single throw and the circuit is momentary. It is available in straight PC, with or without support bracket, and right angle bracketed mount. The GB2 features a unique off-center actuator that enables easy actuation in high density mounting situations, while avoiding accidental operation in compact environments.

The GW series of rocker and paddle-actuated devices are available in both single pole double throw and double pole double throw circuit configurations. These maintained circuits are two position, ON-ON. Design engineers can choose from several terminal options including straight PC, right angle bracketed and vertical bracketed PC mounts.
