NKK's New Toggles and Rockers Meet International Certifications

December 4, 2006 By Design World Staff

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — NKK Switches, an industry leader in the design and manufacturing of electromechanical switches, announces the internationally approved P series of toggle and rocker switches with certifications from UL, CSA, C-UL, VDE, SEMKO and SEV. These standard size devices are designed to meet the needs of industrial/commercial, instrumentation and medical applications.

The P series features silver alloy contacts that resist arcing and guarantee stable electrical contact and long life.  The toggles have mechanical life rating of 100,000 operations minimum, while rockers are rated 50,000 operations minimum. Both have an electrical life of 25,000 operations minimum.

The P series frames are a stainless steel design, which resists corrosion and increases environmental safety. The frame is clinched to the case well above the base and terminals, thereby providing 4,000V dielectric strength. The case and base are constructed of diallyl phtalate resin, which meets UL94V-0 rating for flammability.

These distinctive toggles and rockers have high insulating barriers that increase the isolation of circuits in the double pole versions and provide additional protection to the contact points. As evidenced by the ratings, the prominent external insulating barriers increase insulation resistance and dielectric strength.

Terminals are epoxy sealed to prevent the entry of flux, solvents and other contaminants and available in solder lug; straight PC or .187” quick connect.

P series toggles can be specified in 6mm or 12mm bushings. The toggle style has high torque bushing construction that prevents rotation or separation from the frame during installation. Bat styles include flatted, standard and a white cap on the tip.

Rocker and paddle versions are available in a multitude of colors and in two different sizes to fit large or small frame options.

Circuits can be specified in single pole or double pole and in two or three positions. All circuit options are maintained.

The P series is rated at 10A @ 125V AC or 6A @ 250V AC. The motor load rating is 400W @ 125V AC. The lamp load is 2A @ 125V AC for ON-OFF-ON circuit and 3A @ 125V AC for all other circuits.

A leading designer and producer of electromechanical switches, NKK Switches offers one of the industry’s most extensive selections of illuminated, process sealed, miniature, specialty and surface mount switches. The company manufactures more than four million toggle, rocker, pushbutton, slide, rotary and DIP rotary, keypad and keylock switches. NKK Switches maintains a complete network of qualified representatives and distributors through the United States, Canada, Central and South America, Europe and Asia.

NKK Switches is keenly aware of the myriad of issues that are covered under the RoHS directive.  With more than 50 years of experience in the switch industry and as an environmentally-conscious company, NKK is committed to not only providing high quality products and services, but also providing environmentally safe products for its valued customers. NKK continues to lead the industry in responding to the needs of the marketplace with innovation, high reliability and a commitment to excellence.
