Oberg Industries, a full-service contract manufacturer of precision machined and stamped components near Pittsburgh, said today that it has purchased Niles, Ill.– based X-L Engineering Corp. and its precision manufacturing business.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Originally founded in 1943 as a grinding services business, X-L is based 14 miles northwest of Chicago, with an additional facility nearby in Elk Grove Village. It has more than 90 machinists, with a focus on medical devices and aerospace. Going forward, X-L will operate as an extension of Oberg Medical. Oberg is re-branding X-L externally as “Oberg Medical – XL Division.”
X-L presently has strong expertise in thin-walled turning, Swiss machining and, in particular, gun drilling, according to Oberg.
“The culture and passion that X-L’s management and employees embrace for precision and advanced manufacturing is a perfect fit for Oberg Industries,” Oberg CEO David Bonvenuto said in a news release. “We believe both Oberg’s and X-L’s customer partners will benefit from our consolidated ability to provide enhanced manufacturing capacity in core areas of our business while now having new manufacturing capabilities inhouse that were previously limited in capacity or outsourced.”
The new XL Division expands Oberg’s headcount to more than 900 employees globally, with production facilities in Pennsylvania, Illinois and Costa Rica. Oberg officials expect combined sales to reach more than $150 million by the end of 2018.
