Oticon Medical Certified as Medicare Durable Medical Equipment Supplier

February 5, 2013 By the Associated Press

SOMERSET, N.J.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Feb 5, 2013–Oticon Medical today announced that the company has obtained accreditation as a Medicare Durable Medical Equipment Supplier from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Oticon Medical is now accredited to bill the Medicare Part B program for Ponto bone anchored hearing solutions furnished to Medicare beneficiaries. The CMS DMEPOS (Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics and Supplies) accreditation process aims to ensure that Medicare beneficiaries have access to high quality items of durable medical equipment and is part of the federal agency’s larger vision to foster a health care system that ensures quality care for all persons on Medicare. To earn DMEPOS accreditation, Oticon Medical met stringent CMS quality standards that addressed such factors as product quality, business integrity, accountability and performance management.

“We are pleased that our commitment to quality products designed to minimize treatment-related side effects and increase patients’ long term prospects and well-being has enabled us to achieve this important milestone,” says Curt Gorman, Oticon Medical US President. “DMEPOS accreditation means that Oticon Medical can increase access to Ponto bone anchored hearing solutions for people enrolled in Medicare – and provide more choice for both patients and physicians.” A Growing Market Gorman points out that Oticon Medical’s accreditation as a Durable Medical Equipment Supplier helps to ensure that the company’s professional partners can maintain their share of the ever-increasing DME market that is expected to reach $31 billion in 2013 ( Durable Medical Equipment: U.S. Market Size, Segments, Growth and Trends, 2011 ). As regulated prescription devices, bone anchored hearing processors can only be dispensed by a medical or hearing health provider. Oticon Medical works closely with leading otolaryngologists, neuro otologists, audiologists and clinics across the US that specialize in surgical procedures and fitting of bone anchored implant systems.

“Oticon Medical is a company committed to creating new possibilities and more choice in bone anchored hearing solutions,” adds Gorman. “As a DMEPOS Supplier, we are uniquely positioned to assist hearing health care providers in extending the potential for treatment and successful outcomes to more patients than ever before.”
