DePuy Synthes CMF, part of the DePuy Synthes Companies of Johnson & Johnson, announced the launch of Patient Specific Plates for Mandible (PSPM), new plates that are customized based on surgeon specifications and individual patient anatomy. PSPM is designed to give the reconstructive surgeon greater control over plate design and screw placement which assists in planning of future dental restoration, ultimately leading to a more individualized reconstruction. The DePuy Synthes CMF PSPM includes a range of customizable design features that the surgeon can select before surgery including plate thickness and shape, and screw hole locations, pattern, and angulation. In addition, the DePuy Synthes CMF Patient Specific Plate for Mandible is optimized for use with PROPLAN CMF surgical guides. These guides have integrated drill guides for creating the bone holes, which are designed to align with the plate holes to facilitate transfer of the surgical plan to the operating room. Anatomic bone models may be created from original patient CT scans or to the planned outcome, to provide tactile and visual representation of the surgery to enhance patient understanding. The DePuy Synthes CMF Patient Specific Plate for Mandible is available in 2.0 mm and 2.5 mm thick profiles. Both these profiles have improved fatigue life over the company’s 2.5 mm MatrixMANDIBLE flat plates, and the 2.0 mm thick plates offer greater strength with lower profile, as compared to the 2.5 mm MaxtrixMANDIBLE flat plates.
