This image shows conventional long-exposure images (top row), and schematically depicted individual particle positions as revealed by the high-speed pulsed-laser imaging technique (bottom row) in a microfluidic device. At high speeds, the focusing effect on particles breaks down in water due to turbulence, whereas the focusing is preserved and enhanced by the team’s polymer solution.
