High-performance PolyMed composite tubing could find uses in electro-surgical devices (both monopolar and bipolar), surgical ablation tools, suction irrigation or trocar cannula, endoscopic and laparoscopic instruments, and robotic surgery technologies, according to Polygon.
“Composites are an excellent replacement for stainless steel tubing and other metals in medical applications. PolyMed’s features and benefits out-do metal on multiple important factors, including patient protection” Ted Wallace, director of sales and marketing at Polygon, said in a news release.
PolyMed composite tubing is invisible to X-ray, thermally insulating, and non-conductive, according to Polygon. The company claims that PolyMed strength and performance characteristics exceed those of stainless steel and are superior to traditional thermoplastic materials.
PolyMed is ISO-10993 compliant and can be sterilized.
