PolyOne Advanced Composites, a new platform within PolyOne’s Specialty Engineered Materials business, is exhibiting for the first time at CAMX 2016, a premier composites industry event.
The new platform consists of two recently acquired businesses, Polystrand and Gordon Composites, combined with PolyOne’s existing Glasforms unit. The resulting portfolio includes a diverse range of thermoplastic and thermoset continuous-fiber carbon and glass reinforced materials that offer exceptional strength-to-weight ratios as well as unmatched flexibility.
“Within this new platform, our range of engineered composite technologies is virtually unmatched, spanning pultrusion, pull winding, CRTM panels, sandwich panels and multilayer laminates in both thermoset and thermoplastic resins,” said Matthew Borowiec, general manager, PolyOne Advanced Composites. “Together, we can now collaborate more effectively with customers to solve their engineering challenges using any one of these material/technology combinations, while continuing to push the limits of composite material science and application development.”
These multiple solutions and technologies will help accelerate formulation development for the most demanding engineered applications, according to Borowiec. In addition, customers will be able to rely on strong engineering teams, who can tailor materials and reinforcements to specific application needs.
Specific continuous-fiber thermoplastic technologies include:
- Multi-axial and multilayer tapes, laminates and sheets up to 10 ft. wide;
- Sandwich panels in unlimited lengths, up to 6 in. thick and 10 ft. wide; and
- High volume production capacity.
Thermoset offerings include:
- Carbon and glass fiber continuous forming processes including pultrusion, filament winding and pull winding for rods, tubes and profiles;
- Continuous Resin Transfer Molded (CRTM) sandwich panels; and
- Bar stock, laminates and hybrid composite springs.
PolyOne Advanced Composites is exhibiting at CAMX 2016 in Anaheim, California at booth H74 from September 26 to 28, 2016. Polystrand PETG X-ply materials will also be on view in the CAMX Award Pavilion in finalist Ebert Composites Corporation’s radome.
