NEWS RELEASE: Premix Celebrates Grand Opening of New Production Plant in Dallas, NC (Charlotte Metro Area)
Premix, Inc. marked a major milestone with the grand opening of its state-of-the-art production facility in Dallas, North Carolina—strategically located in the Charlotte metropolitan area.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony welcomed a distinguished group of attendees, including John Knox, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary (PDAS) for the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR); Her Excellency, Leena-Kaisa Mikkola, Ambassador of Finland to the United States; local government officials from Gastonia; and representatives from the Gastonia Economic Development Department. Joining them were members of the Premix founding family, representing the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generations, as well as senior leaders from Finland.
Construction of the new Premix plant began in 2022 following the award of a $79.9 million contract from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), in collaboration with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The funding was designated to support the domestic production of a specialized plastic compound essential for manufacturing pipette tips used in diagnostic and life science applications.
The newly inaugurated 66,204-square-foot facility reflects over 40 years of Premix’s innovation in electrically conductive plastics. It is equipped to produce advanced polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP)-based resins and concentrates sourced from U.S. suppliers, supporting both extrusion and injection molding applications.
“These materials enable high-precision liquid-level sensing in diagnostic testing, while also improving safety in transport and storage by protecting against uncontrolled electrostatic discharges (ESD)—a crucial requirement in electronics, industrial packaging, diagnostics, and other high-performance sectors,” said Jaakko Aho, CEO of Premix Group. “Establishing a manufacturing presence in the United States is about more than production—it’s about strengthening supply chain resilience and building trusted partnerships.”
The new Apple Creek plant delivers shorter lead times, a reduced carbon footprint, and increased supply chain security for the U.S. market, representing a strategic expansion of Premix’s global operations. To learn more visit: https://www.
