Quinte Health Care Chooses Amcom Software for Critical Test Results Management

March 26, 2013 By the Associated Press

MINNEAPOLIS–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Mar 26, 2013–Amcom Software, Inc. today announced Quinte Health Care (QHC) will use the Amcom® Critical Test Results Management (CTRM) solution to save time and improve patient safety and quality of care. The Ontario, Canada-based organization selected Amcom to provide a more efficient reporting system, reduce the risk of missed incidental findings, and improve the workflow for diagnosticians and physicians. This will be possible through the system’s ability to alert staff of test results quickly and note findings directly in patients’ electronic medical records.

“Presently, when a patient has a critical test result, the radiologist or lab technologist has a cumbersome process that includes multiple phone calls to the referring physician and manual documentation of that call,” said Dianna Kiss, PACS Coordinator at QHC. “We want to automate this process so that the diagnosticians and technologists can be more efficient and keep their focus on patient care. Another reason for this initiative is to streamline the method for communicating results to the ER physicians, thereby improving ER patient throughput and minimizing ER patient wait times. Amcom will smooth these processes and make test result communications faster. Our diagnosticians can be assured that their findings and recommendations have been received and reviewed.” Amcom Critical Test Results Management will integrate with multiple systems throughout the QHC facility using Health Level 7 (HL7), the standard format for exchanging patient health information among medical applications. This integration will allow diagnosticians to document and immediately send alerts about their findings. It will also provide smoother management of incidental, non-urgent findings. All communications will be secure and automatically recorded to provide a full audit trail that supports accountability.

“We chose Amcom because it’s not a cookie-cutter solution; we can tailor it to QHC,” Kiss said. “It works in all the diagnostic areas we report for – Cardiopulmonary, Radiology, and the Laboratory, and will provide efficiencies in the diagnostics and ER departments alike.” “I am excited to see that Quinte Health Care will apply our CTRM solution in so many important areas,” said Colin Balmforth, President, Amcom Software. “We’re not only saving time for providers and diagnosticians, but we’re also reducing the stress for patients who are anxiously awaiting their results.” About Quinte Health Care Quinte Health Care provides a wide range of high quality health care services to 160,000 people living in the diverse region of Prince Edward and Hastings Counties and the southeast portion of Northumberland County. Care is provided through four hospitals – QHC Belleville General Hospital, QHC North Hastings Hospital, QHC Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital and QHC Trenton Memorial Hospital – and includes four emergency departments, operating rooms at three sites, a rehabilitation day hospital, children’s treatment centre, ambulatory care clinics, community mental health programs and a range of diagnostic services.
