Merit Medical Systems announced the launch of the Prelude SNAP on June 2. The Prelude SNAP is a splittable sheath introducer created to reduce vessel trauma and provide ease of insertion through tortuous anatomy. Merit Medical Systems is a manufacturer and marketer of proprietary disposable devices used primarily in cardiology, radiology and endoscopy.
“Physicians know firsthand how frustrating it is to lose a lead placement,” said Fred Lampropoulos, CEO and chairman of Merit Medical Systems. “By understanding those frustrations, Merit designed the Prelude SNAP to repair the situation.”
When tested, the Prelude SNAP was approximately 33 % easier to break than competitors. This easier-to-break sheath can minimize harsh movements of the lead during removal and help ensure leads stay in place during the procedure.
The Prelude SNAP comes in a number of sizes, ranging from 6 to 12.5 F and from 2 to 3.7 mm. Each product kit contains the Prelude SNAP splittable sheath introducer, dilator, 0.038 x 50 cm or 0.038 x 80 cm guide wire, an 18 G x 7 cm Merit Advance Needle and a 12 mL syringe.
